The earlier an infant is identified and enrolled in an appropriate intervention program, the greater the child's opportunity to successfully acquire language and speech. The first three years of an infant's life are critical as children learn through the love and affection of their families. At Sunshine Cottage, parents embrace an auditory-verbal philosophy that will help their child learn to listen and communicate. In a warm, comfortable, home-like setting, parents learn about hearing loss, effective use of amplification and strategies for developing oral language. Each family becomes a part of a team that includes parents, audiologists, and parent-advisors, all working, learning and growing together. Precious moments, effective techniques and emotional support are shared during group and individual sessions.
