Parenting Education

In addition to the individual family sessions offered, parents can also benefit from parenting sessions. The parenting sessions focus on issues and concerns for all parents, regardless of their child's ability to hear, and provides an opportunity for you to see how your child and your circumstances measure on a typical continuum.

Theo highly recognized curriculums, Family Frameworks: The Early Years, developed by the Parent Learning Network (a division of the Texas Association of School Boards), and The Nurturing Program, developed by Family Development Resources, Inc., provide the framework for these sessions. Parent participation is a strong component of both curriculums. The two-hour sessions are provided in a small group format for one and a half hours during either lunchtime or suppertime. Childcare is provided for all children in each family, as well as meals for both parents and children.

Session topics:

  • The uniqueness of each child
  • Patterns of growth and behavior
  • Helping babies grow brain cells
  • Supporting development at every age and at every stage
  • Nurturing routines
  • Child-proofing and redirecting
  • Recognizing and understanding feelings
  • Choosing childcare
  • Behavior and self-esteem
  • Discipline and development
  • Empathy and spoiling
  • Rewards and praise
