Checklists of hierarchies and objectives for children abound.
What about the focus of Auditory-Verbal Therapy and Early Intervention
services - the parents/primary caregivers? Use this recently developed
checklist to provide a framework for encouraging and guiding your
parents/primary caregivers in their quest to gain an understanding
about the impact of hearing loss on their family, as well as on the development of listening, language and speech for their child
with hearing loss.
With guidance from a professional trained in auditory-based practices,
parents/primary caregivers choose topics to learn about or select
strategies to use with their child with hearing loss that facilitate
listening and speech/language acquisition. Then parents rate themselves
on their level of comfort with the information and strategies they
acquired.
Five areas of competency are included in this booklet along with
the rationale and suggestions for use with families:
. Listening Information - 14 topics
. Listening Strategies - 19 items
. Language Information - 11 topics
. Language Strategies - 21 items
. Parent Advocacy Information and Strategies - 11 topics/items
