Art
The elementary art program provides activities in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and crafts. The program is sequentially developed on disciplined based art education. Art concepts are taught through activities based on the elements of design: line, shape, form, texture, space, color and value. Art instruction lends itself to integrating with other subject areas. The purposes of these activities are to help students develop awareness of, and appreciation for, the skills in communicating through art, and a feeling of pride and satisfaction in their work. Multicultural art activities are infused into the curriculum. Art classes give students the opportunity to develop an interest in art appreciation and to develop critical and creative thinking skills.
Fine Arts Night is an annual celebration of our children’s knowledge of art, showcasing student projects spearheaded by Art Teacher Giovi Carrola. Volunteer artists visit, demonstrate their art, and speak about their creative experiences. During the evening, students and guests will have the opportunity to create art through music, painting and drawing, and other mediums.
